Now is the time to start getting ready for trek. Your trek experience will be positive if you are spiritually and physically prepared. All youth, advisers, and adults that are participating in trek are highly encouraged to participate in the Trek Challenge with their families. This will be a way to prepare spiritually and physically each month for your trek experience. The Stake Young Men and Young Women Presidency promises that as you prepare you will be blessed with an outpouring of the spirit, will develop a great love and appreciation for the pioneers as well as for your Savior Jesus Christ and will be physically and mentally prepared for the challenges of trek. (For a printable schedule of the Trek Challenge click here)
Follow the instructions for each month, if you need hiking ideas see the section Hiking Trails Around Las Vegas
*After participating in each challenge, discuss with your family your experience or how these challenges develop you on your personal trek. Record your thoughts and impressions in your personal journal. Discuss these challenges during your class/quorum council time.
Our stake has the following goals: Please plan with your family and ward ways to help achieve these goals.
Family History: 300 + Histories - All youth learn of one pioneer story and be able to share on trek. This could be an actual pioneer or your family’s conversion story.
Temple Work: 20,000 Ordinances - Youth attend temple and complete 20,000 temple ordinances.
Each trek participant is encouraged to find a name of a pioneer ancestor to trek "in honor of" and bring their story to share. If no family pioneer is available, any pioneer story is fine. (Click here for Ward Family History Leaders that can help with this)
Physical Preparation: Pioneer treks require physical stamina, which leaders and youth can develop by obeying the Word of Wisdom, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly. Physical preparation cannot be completed in a short period of time. All participants should be prepared to walk three miles an hour and be capable of walking up to 10 miles a day while pulling a heavy handcart over rough terrain.
